Morzine
Activities all year round
Morzine is a thriving Alpine village set deep in the Chablais mountain range, between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, by the France-Switzerland border. It has grown over the years to become a charming ski resort in winter and a popular biking, hiking and alpine climbing destination in summer. Although the village is situated at a relatively low 900m, its network of lifts reaches the panoramic Chamossière at 1800m and Avoriaz at 2100m. You may not be able to ski back to your accommodation at the end of the day but the extensive lift system means you’ll make it home whatever the snow cover.

Below are our three favourite activities in Morzine but there are plenty more to choose from. Check out the selection of things to do below for some holiday inspiration – you’ll see that there are plenty of alternatives to skiing and snowboarding in Morzine.
1. Winter sports, skiing & snowboarding: Skiing and snowboarding are probably the most popular activities in the Les Gets. But we’re not talking about lift-assisted, downhill skiing and snowboarding only – there’s a whole host of activities that involve boards strapped onto your feet including ski touring and split boarding, cross-country skiing or telemarking. But there’s much more than just skiing and snowboarding in Morzine in the winter. The Les Gets mountains are the perfect setting to go snowshoeing and husky-dog sledging, while the ice skating rinks in Morzine town centre will keep the whole family entertained.
2. Mountain biking: Many people would argue that it’s actually mountain biking that’s the number one activity in Morzine. The Les Gets trails and bike parks are considered the best in the world and attract hundreds of enduro and downhill biking aficionados every summer to its almost 150km of tracks, that meander through lush forests to reach stunning mountaintops with breathtaking views. An experience not to be missed!
3. Walking, hiking & running: In the summer, the Les Gets pistes turn into meadows and deep-forested trails to explore on foot. From easy valley strolls to gruelling trail running climbs, everyone can explore the Morzine valley’s beautiful sunny landscapes.

Weather:
There is regular snowfall – on average six days – and subzero temperatures keep it nice and fresh. In January the average daytime temperatures generally fall between a high of 3°C and a low of -3ºC, getting around five hours of sunshine. Definitely pack those thermals!
It’s a new year in Morzine and both the town and the slopes have emptied out after a hectic New Year. It’s one of the best times to visit as the snow is almost always good and lift queues are at their shortest.
After the Christmas holidays are over, January is the quietest part of the main winter season in Morzine. This means you have the slopes to yourselves, rarely have to queue for a lift and can enjoy pistes in great condition.
The quiet conditions on the mountain don’t translate to quiet nights in the town. There are fewer families and more adult visitors, meaning it can be easier to get a table at a restaurant, and the bars are buzzing with plenty of live music and party nights to keep you entertained whilst you warm your hands on a glass of vin chaud.
